Going Back to Ye Olde Days

I'd like to pretend that my constant need to do something isn't responsible for this, but this one time I'm going to admit nostalgia probably had something to do with it.

You’ll probably notice after changing domains not that long ago, I’ve gone and done it again. I’d like to pretend that my constant need to do something isn’t responsible for this, but this one time I’m going to admit nostalgia probably had something to do with it.

You see all this time of chasing the dragon, I’ve had mmn.on.ca silently being brought along for a 27 year ride of existence. Since then I’ve always had my eye on the prize, and the prize was the top .ca version of this domain.

I think that going through the three to four month process to kick this whole thing off (even though I’m back to square one), then spinning up a server to host this WordPress site on my own, and a bunch of other small related projects sparked off the whole “it’s been here all this time”.

The olden years be calling here and they’re reminding me that mmn.on.ca although a bit longer than it needs to be (thanks for that UBC) is the original domain I was running my first real websites off of a Mac Quadra that was on my desk and that never turned off. Before that, this domain (or possibly mmn.toronto.on.ca) was running Quid Pro Quo on a Mac Classic.

Let’s not forget the BBS has literally been sucking electric out of the wall since forever on this domain, running off of a shonky frankenserver that one day may just explode, and that has out lived more newer drives / machines.

Like don’t get me wrong, the domains I’ve been hopping from have meaning, but they’re not exactly the age of a child if I was more heterosexual and in a popular Canadian teen series from the 80s. I also think that going through this period of being desperately poor reminded me of the very few things in life that I will absolutely go out of my way to avoid losing, and mmn.on.ca was exactly that decision I made more than once in my adult life.

Eventually when whatever the fuck is happening with mmn.ca is settled, I’ll probably shift somethings over to that domain and make a point of renewing them both for the maximum 10 years, but I’ve resettled the idea of – the root domain points to the original site and subdomains are for everything. These being lessons I’ve learned from the project with sus.fr and oh.mg.

Also this probably has a touch of reconciling with my not so great past, remember kids childhood trauma haunts you forever so try not to do that in the future, or like just torch the planet, whatever.

I guess the final point I want to say is that within all of this mess, oh.mg is remaining to be the great archive of things I wanted it to be and I’m not intending to change that, micro.blog is the new social media archive, chevereto is my photo album, and much like sus.fr, mmn.(on.)ca will be the jumping hub to all of that.

Because I’m a Good Christian™ here are some of the other photos I was intensely reviewing to use above.
